Grüblsee Alpine Aquarium

You can enjoy underwater exploration just a few kilometers from our B&B. At an elevation of 1160m above sea level, Lake Grüblsee is home to the highest diving base in Europe. With a maximum depth of 9 metres, and chock full of trout, char, and twelve other sorts of fish - plus many surprises - it's an excellent opportunity for underwater photography. If you keep your eyes open, you'll find Egyptian statues, hidden treasure, and other mysterious figures - even a shark, which you luckily don't have to be afraid of. Diving tuition is offered, and equipment can be hired on site.

Erzberg railway

Formerly one of the most important stretches of railway in upper Styria, used to transport valuable iron ore from the locel "Ore Mountain" or Erzberg, the Erzberg railway on the Präbichl pass is now a railway museum. Opened in 1891 as a cog railway, the historic route is one of the prettiest in Austria, and one of the steepest standard gauge tracks in Europe. The journey takes you from Vordernberg to Eisenerz via 8 brick viaducts and through multiple tunnels, bringing you closer to the impressive mountain scenery with every metre. A special part of railway history! Trips on the train are possible between 3 July and 30 October.

Radmer Copper Mine

Past the Erzberg and moving onwards towards Hieflau, you arrive at idyllic Radmer, where Austria's smallest mine railway awaits adults and children alike. Here you can explore the well-preserved and renovated "Paradeisstolle" - one of the tunnels of the 16th century copper mine. Equipped with jacket and helmet, your guide will take you underground, where you travel by train through the narrow tunnels - just fifty centimetres wide in some places. After the ten-minute journey, the trip continues on foot through the labyrinthine mine where you can marvel at awe-inspiring rock formations and unique historical finds.

Duration: approximately 1 hour

Open daily from 9am to 6pm. Please notify the mine in advance of your visit.

Salza Rafting

A unique summer attraction awaits where a tributary of the Enns makes its way through the wild Gesäuse valley, and the rock walls of both river banks rise steeply above you - rafting on the river Salza. An unobstructed sixty kilometre stretch of wild water makes the Salza one of the finest rivers in Austria. THE AOS outdoor training centre offers rafting, canoeing or kayaking tours at beginner and intermediary levels, and children can explore the river on a raft they build themselves. The centre offers half-day tours, day-long tours, canyoning, and even a whole adventure week for families in the Gesäuse national park. Multi-day sports programs can be organised for school groups (minimum age 12 years old).
